Honorary Consul Activities

Luvsanjantsan base. In 1910s, he belonged to a group called "Ugsaatni" or "Noyals Party", and was looking for ways to restore Mongolian autonomy and get out of Chinese rule. It has a history of taking initiative to get aid and support from the United States for Mongolia's independence. In the early 1920s, he was arrested and imprisoned by Chinese military forces and later he was convicted in connection with the case of S. Danzan during the People's Government. Went to Tserendorj's ottog. The year is 1916. In the Urgoo area.

We were also joined by Ms. Saina Fan - Regional Manager Export Development Canada & Eve Rotstein Global Affairs Canada - Cleantech Trade Commissioner, Ontario Regional Office of the Trade Commissioner Service.

In 1865, David Nighswander (lot 25, concession 10) requested a post office for the community, and chose the name "Mongolia" from a list of possible names after he was told the name "California" was already in use in Canada. The community had a general store, an inn (which burned down in 1870), a blacksmith shop, wagon-making shop, a cobbler shop, and a Temperance Hall. In the early years, school was held in the general store at the corners. In 1855, a wooden-frame school (S.S. #22) was built on the east side of the 10th Line on lot 26. In 1882, a new school was built on the west side of 10 Line on lot 26, and it remained in use until 1964.

A very special day for Canada & Mongolia. The Hamlet of Mongolia in Markham, Ontario is the only place with this name outside the country of Mongolia. In 1865 a post office was established here & the name Mongolia was chosen. A Special Tree Planting with Ambassador Sarantogos, Mayor Scarpetti & Embsssy staff attended. Celebrating 50 years of relations.

Delighted to speak on anti-corruption measures as a member of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) to fellow colleagues of the Consular Corps Association (Toronto) at the National Club.

Consulate Office Opening

It was my pleasure to speak at the Munk Institute (University of Toronto) to Masters Students on Canada Japan Relations. We were honored to have a video conference with the Japanese Ambassador, Kanji Yamanouchi. He provided us with observations on both historic & contemporary concerns regarding bi-lateral relations. His generous comments about my involvement over the years was very much appreciated. Special thanks to Professor Philip Lipscy for again inviting me. Great questions from the class.
